Andreas Hauri City Councillor

Greeting from Andreas Hauri

Dear residents of Höngg and dear guests

There are festivals you visit. And there are festivals that are supported by an entire neighborhood. The Höngger Wümmetfäscht has belonged to the latter category for decades. Anyone who knows Höngg knows: Here, club culture is not a footnote, but lived reality. From the chess club to the theater club, from the choirs to the sports club – many people volunteer and take responsibility.

It is not a festival that is simply organized. It comes about because countless people lend a hand: at the Market stalls and in the festival restaurants, on the Stages , during setup and dismantling and wherever helping hands are needed. This commitment in particular makes Höngg a special Neighborhood – in the middle of the city of Zurich. You can feel this particularly this weekend. You meet acquaintances, get to know new people and strike up conversations with each other.

That this year on the two Stages mostly artists with ties to Höngg perform, fits wonderfully. This impressively shows how much creativity and commitment is in the neighborhood. And of course, wine is also part of it. The vines on the Hönggerberg have shaped the townscape for generations. They are a reminder that tradition is not something dusty. It lives on because people carry it forward. So when the Suuserfass is tapped on Friday evening, it's not just the start of a festival. It's the start of a weekend full of encounters and lived neighborliness.

My heartfelt thanks go to the Organizing Committee , the associations, and the many volunteers Helpers . Without their commitment, this special festival would not exist. I wish you all a happy 46th Höngger Wümmetfäscht and many wonderful hours together.

Sincerely
Andreas Hauri, City Councillor Head of the Health and Environment Department
